The Springfield School Committee apparently voted last week to cancel school on Wednesday, November 22, which was previously scheduled to be a half-day. This news comes from a small blurb in today’s Springfield Republican:

Springfield school canceled for Nov. 22
SPRINGFIELD – In accordance with language in the new teacher’s contract, the School Committee has voted to cancel school for Nov. 22, the day before Thanksgiving.

Nov. 22 was scheduled to be a half day. The day will be made up at the end of the school year, which pushes the last day of school to June 22.

The June 22 date is contingent upon the district using five snow days, which are built into the school calendar.

According to the School Committee’s meeting schedule, this decision was likely made on October 19. The school calendar already reflects the November 22 date change, but not the June 22 change.

The public could use more ways of finding out this kind of information. In my experience, notes about upcoming events and date changes are sent home with very short notice. School Committee blog, anyone?
