Trying to turn over a new leaf—we’re not just about strip clubs, you know—the new Springfield downtown dining district consists of six restaurants so far.

The one-page Web site for the district, which is mainly a gateway to the six restaurants’ Web pages, plugs Cobalt club and restaurant on Worthington Street, Cafe Lebanon, L’uVA cocktail bar and restaurant, Sonoma wine bar and grill, and Sitar restaurant (all on Main Street), and the Student Prince on Fort Street.

The dining district page also features a map of downtown with links to directions on Google.

Adding layers on this cake of the downtown economy, the Springfield Business Improvement District has been at work recently to leave no tree well unfilled, and the Greater Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau has been considering ways to maximize revenue in local hotel rooms taxes.

As the Urban Land Institute panel’s Barry Elbasani told us last month, getting people to spend money and linger downtown is going to take some concerted effort on multiple fronts. More residents living there is one of the first steps, to help restaurants like the "dining district six" do a little better.
