This just in, from a resident of Springfield’s six-story McIntosh building, at the corner of Worthington and Chestnut Streets downtown:

There are five units in my building going out for bid in a couple weeks. The minimum bid is around $50,000 (I paid way more), but the main consideration will be quality of the proposals—we want responsible owners who want to live here and contribute to the revitalization of Downtown.

These are mostly one bedroom, loft-style units—there may be a couple two-bedroom ones—high ceilings, huge windows, exposed brick and wooden beams, etc. If you know anyone who might be remotely interested, please put them in touch with me—I’d be happy to send them more info, pictures, give them a tour, and help them get the RFP (request for proposals) information.

Any takers? The building, a former shoe factory, is quite handsome. If you live there, you can very easily visit the Masterpiece Unisex Salon downstairs on the Chestnut Street side, for fades, braids and more. Additional photos of the building are available in the sidebar gallery.
