A National Geographic photographer for over 25 years and a volunteer firefighter, Michael Yamashita has also published several books, including In the Japanese Garden, The Mekong: Mother of Waters, Marco Polo: A Photographer's Journey and Zheng He: Tracing Epic Voyages of China's Greatest Explorer. Yamashita lives in New Jersey and has also worked close to home—his latest book, New York Flying High, with text by Elizabeth Bibb, features aerial photographs of New York City.
Yamashita's upcoming book, with text by William Lindesay, The Great Wall of China: From Beginning to End, takes readers on a photographic journey, traveling the length of one of the world's greatest engineering feats. In conjunction with the book, Yamashita presents Silk Road & Great Wall of China, an exhibition of 60 photographic prints made for this exhibit from original film images from The Great Wall of China and two of his other books.
