Inspired by the blow-out hairstyle boy’s recent sellout performance at The Shrine at MGM Grand, the local powers that be have decided to up the ante—and lather things up—with a show they call FTL—Foam, Tan, Laundry: The DJ Pauly D Foam Party.
True to form, the event will feature designated “grenade” (Shore slang for what they deem, shall we say… aesthetically challenged women?) and “grenade free” zones as well as foam, foam-free and, of course, a VIP zone.

In other news… count Samirah Evans as one of many natural resources New Orleans lost in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. After the disaster, the soulful siren decided to relocate to Brattleboro, where she resides to this day.
Evans burst onto the soul/jazz scene in 2002 with her breakout CD Give Me A Moment. The disc was ranked among the top five releases for the year by the New Orleans Times-Picayune and led to regular performance slots at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and world tours that would see her share stages with bona fide blues royalty including B.B. King and James Brown.
This Saturday, Aug. 4, she’ll perform at the Iron Horse with the Handsome Devils, a band she picked up upon arrival in the Green Mountain State, which includes Michael Zsolodos on saxophone, Dave Picchi on bass, Jon Fisher on drums and Miro Sprague on piano.
That said, after this weekend, she’ll be one devil down, as Sprague is bowing out to embark on a two-year master’s program at the Thelonious Monk Institute. Tix for this show are $12.50 in advance, $15 at the door and available at iheg.com.

Speaking of Vermont—and floods, for that matter—Valley upstarts the Drunk Stuntmen (myspace.com/drunkstuntmen) have forged a longtime relationship with Brattleboro-based Lynde Motorsports. They also played a recent benefit for the business after it was ravaged by surging water.
This Friday, Aug. 4, the Stuntmen return for a far more lighthearted affair, serving as house band for the Lynde Motorsports Art On Wheels exhibit on Flat Street from 6 to 10 p.m.
“What can I say?” says Stunt-fronter Steve Sanderson of the affair. “If Brattleboro wants to keep closing streets for us to put on rock shows, we’ll keep coming!”

Last but not least, just under three dozen of the area’s top bands, including Lobsterz From Marz, Triple XXX and Intolerance, lend their talents to a day-long event at Maximum Capacity (newmaximumcapacity.com) Aug. 26 titled Justice For Amanda.
The all-ages benefit will raise funds for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the murder of Chicopee resident Amanda Plasse, as well as the donation, in her memory, of upgrades and supplies to local schools. The event occurs on the one-year anniversary of Plasse’s passing.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under, and include admission and food. A large number of prizes—most notably, a trip for two to Las Vegas—will also be raffled throughout the day to support the effort.
