After more than 20 years in the outdoor clothing and equipment business, the Mountain Goat in downtown Northampton has closed. The store’s current co-owners, AJ LaFleur and Mary Colwell, are also shutting their second location in Hanover, N.H.
“Colwell said … the store could not compete with Internet retailers, big-box stores and warmer winters,” reports the Valley News.
The Northampton Mountain Goat’s original co-owners, Sandy Kelly and Sally Mole, are still active with the Goat’s “sister store” in Manchester, Vt., which is owned by Anne and Ron Houser. The Manchester location continues to do lively business.•
