For Alonzo King, a piece of choreography isn’t just a dance. It is instead a “thought structure,” one which addresses and employs the laws of physics. Through his “thought structures,” King hopes to create new kinds of expression and even new kinds of movement via the very old forms and techniques of classical ballet.

King’s works are brought to life by the San Francisco-based LINES Ballet, a troupe of dancers with long lists of bona fides. The group’s habit of global touring brings them to UMass this week.
