The “it” in the expression You Can’t Take It With You usually refers to money, but in George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart’s giddy 1936 screwball comedy, it’s life itself. The Sycamores are an extended family of optimistic misfits who scandalize the working stiffs by simply following their passions, be they music-making, toe-shoe-dancing or pyrotechnics. The play is the epitome of Depression-era pick-me-ups with sprawling casts and big hearts. It’s bursting the seams of Ashfield Town Hall this weekend, and is directed by Martin Shell.

June 6-7, 7 p.m., Ashfield Community Theater, Ashfield Town Hall, acth.org.
