Trance Dance Evolution

It takes an uncommon blend of bravado and skill to play “imagined hybrids from lost empires,” but that’s what Pakistani pop star Zeb Bangash and Brooklyn-based klezmer clarinetist Michael Winograd have set out to do. The dynamic musical duo has pulled together a powerful backing band of accordion, violin, guitar, oud, keyboard, bass, and drums to form the band called Sandaraa (the Pashto word for “song”). The mingling sounds of Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and 21st-century global trance and club music are at turns smooth, chaotic, and mesmerizing. The group releases a new self-titled album this week, followed by an East Coast tour.

Sandaraa: May 9 at 7 p.m. $12 advance; $15 at the door. The Parlor Room, 32 Masonic St., Northampton. signaturesoundspresents.com.
