How did you get connected with Greenfield Gallery?

I was just looking for my own art space and I was kind of shopping around the area. I think that was the second place I looked at and I was just completely enchanted. It’s such a great space. I love how the owner lives and works in the building, so I felt very safe, and there’s a lot of great artists and people working on stuff. I was like: this is perfect. This is just what I need.

Now I can walk to stuff. I like how Greenfield is starting to revive again with the art scene. It’s the right choice.

Can you tell me a little bit about the work you have on display right now?

The stuff in the Greenfield Gallery is a new series of assemblages with scrap wood, keeping with my theme of landscapes, primarily Western Mass and the North Quabbin area. Lots of water, the hills, the trees. I do a lot of commuting, so I’m always keeping an eye on the horizon and watching the landscape fly by me. I love the movement, I’ve been able to incorporate into my painting with that idea. Lots of bright colors.

You said you commute a lot. What do you do?

I’m a graphic designer. I’m working in Brattleboro, and I live in Orange, and I have the space in Greenfield, and we go out to Worcester a lot, so we’re always just driving everywhere.

What are you trying to get across with your work?

I’m definitely inspired by the landscape of the area. I’m really getting into working with nature, the composition of how to arrange a landscape and make it interesting and not too Bob Ross-y, but more abstract. I’m really liking abstraction, and I work with acrylic, so I can work very quickly. I like using bright colors.

What’s next?

Right now I’m taking my summer break. The show in Greenfield is kind of where I’m at, at the moment, and I hope to pick it up and keep working in the fall. I’m going to be at Start of the Street in Worcester in September and I have a lot of beautiful crafts that I’ll be selling there.

I incorporate ideas for my paintings in the small crafts, like little pins, magnets, or mini-paintings. Small gifts for folks. A lot of people on a budget want to be able to have a little something. If they can’t afford a big painting, they can give gifts. Small little fun things. So I’ve been working on that. It’s a lot of fun.
