The Girl with All the Gifts

For a few weeks in 2011, Adele had competition. Amazon Music’s Dance & DJ Pop chart held her at number 1, but Cooter! came in at number 2, the debut single from drag queen, actor, comedian, recording artist, and writer Pandora Boxx, best known as a contestant on RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 2 and All Stars. Miss Congeniality herself tours the world, as she says, “spreading glitter, humor, and fabulosity to the masses.” Now she’s at Oz in Springfield on Sunday. Entry is $15, but the “meet and greet” price is $20, and who on Earth wouldn’t spring for that?

Pandora Boxx: Friday, July 29, 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. $15-$20. Oz Nightclub, 397 Dwight St., Springfield. (413) 382-0056, ozspringfield.com.

Hearty Arty Party

Cosa Rara, one of the coolest new shopfronts in downtown Turners Falls, is a bilingual social center and marketplace led by local people of color. This Thursday, the group hosts a dance party with Afropanther, interactive installations, live painting, sales on hand-printed T-shirts and art, and a candle lighting ceremony to help raise funds in support of and in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.

#BLM Dance Party: Thursday, July 28, 6-9:30 p.m. Free. Cosa Rara, 111 Avenue A, Turners Falls. @cosarara413.

Ko-who, Now?

Who’s in the band Kohoutek? It might be easier to ask who’s not. The D.C. and Philly-based “improv psych power-skronk experimental noise rock” collective has a core lineup of nine musicians and at least another eight billed as “extended family.” But don’t rope off a room for dinner just yet, Mesa Verde — Thursday night’s concert at Jaume I features only four members, whose names appear to be Willie Lane, Matt Krefting, Eggs Eggs!, and Jen Gelineau (it’s that third one that has us a little uncertain). One thing is clear: attendees will get an aural overdose of electro-percussive psychadelic insanity.

Kohoutek: Thursday, July 28 at 8 p.m. Jaume I, 14 Miles St., Greenfield. facebook.com/jaumeone.
