The Last Waltz, 40 Years Later

On CityStage this week, The Rev Tor Band and a local cast of musicians will perform tunes from The Band’s classic 1976 Thanksgiving Day concert, The Last Waltz Live. The show, which was released as a film of the same name, was billed as The Band’s last performance, so the stage was stuffed with all-stars including Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Eric Clapton and Van Morrison. On Friday, for the 40th anniversary of the movie, the Rev Tor Band will play music from the concert with area rockers Peter J. Newland of FAT and members of The Kings, The Diamond Collection, The Ragged Edge, The Medicinal Purpose, and The Dirty Cathechism, Eva Cappelli, Wally Greaney, Jen Jensen, Jeff King, Kenny LaBelle, Frank Manzi, Lisa Martin, Seth Newton, Brother Sal, Reverend Dan, Janet Ryan, and Tommy Whalen. Listen for fan favorites “The Weight”, “Up On Cripple Creek”, and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.”

The Last Waltz Live: Friday, Nov. 11, 7 p.m. $27-$35. CityStage, 1 Columbus Center, Springfield. (978) 673-8085, kara@simonsaysbooking.com.
