Laurel Hausler painting

After living in New Orleans in the late '90s, former Tarot card reader and zookeeper Laurel Hausler began to paint. Over the last decade, the expressionist painter, whose works share a likeness to those of Frida Kahlo and Edvard Munch, developed a cult following. This month in Brattleboro, Hausler exhibits My House is Haunted, 20 oil paintings, including "In the Attic," which is pictured, representing a room or part of the grounds of fictional haunted houses.

Through Aug. 31, Gallery in the Woods, 145 Main St., (802) 257-4777, www.galleryinthewoods.com.
