Valley Bike & Ski Werks, which celebrated its four-year anniversary in March, has gained its reputation for “friendly service and guaranteed satisfaction,” says staffer Stephen Pierce, thanks to “staff expertise and knowledge about our products, and backing that knowledge up with an incredibly well-versed and experienced service department capable of troubleshooting any bicycle conundrum.” Pierce, an elite road and cyclocross racer, says the bike industry is exciting because of “the constant innovation… In the past few years we've seen electronic shifting and hydraulic braking make their way to the high-end road bikes, and 2x10 and 1x11 drivetrains, 27.5" wheels and fatbikes as new developments in the mountain bike world. Commuter bikes have seen a huge stride forward in the past year, as well, with the Specialized Turbo making electric-assist bicycles widely available. These things are incredible and will effectively double what you put into the bike. Imagine cruising up Sugarloaf at 25mph, not breaking a sweat!”
