Stephanie Kraft
¬ítStephanie Kraft has been a reporter for the Valley Advocate newspaper for thirty-four years. In 1973 she earned a Ph.D. in English from the University of Rochester (N.Y.), where her emphasis was on nineteenth-century literature. Though she appreciates the trim, elegant form and polished style of many modern novels, she has a lifelong partiality for the massive Victorian works that gave a sense of the long sweep of people’s lives, the variety of forces and characters involved in the events that affected them, and the power of their emotions. Between 1999 and 2004 she translated Boleslaw Prus’s Emancypantki (Emancipated Women, 1894), a novel first published as a serial in Poland (see or enter Emancipated Women, Prus).
