Comedienne Suzanne Westernhoefer's first television appearance was on Sally, a talk show hosted by Sally Jessy Raphael, in 1991. She went on to become the first openly lesbian actress to appear on national TV with a performance on Late Night with David Letterman. With numerous comedy CDs under her belt, including Nothing in My Closet but My Clothes ('99), and DVDs, including A Bottom on Top ('09), Westernhoefer recently just won Curve magazine's "Funniest Lesbian in America" poll, beating out well-known comediennes like Lily Tomlin, Ellen DeGeneres and Judy Gold.
Westernhoefer, who sports 12 star tattoos and whose only cars have been VW Beetles, is bringing her improvisational brand of comedy—her shows are largely unscripted and poke fun at everything from her dog's foibles to her mom's last will and testament—to Northampton this New Year's Eve as the featured performer of Northampton Pride Promotions' New Year's Eve Extravanga. The festivities also feature dinner, dancing and music by DJ Studebaker Hawk; a portion of the proceeds benefits Northampton Pride.
