At this point, I’m guessing most of you have heard about the “Pray for Obama” brouhaha. Even USA today has gone out on a limb to say it’s “not very nice.” Taking the disgusting “Biden ‘09” bumper sticker campaign (If you’ll recall, said stickers were being sold on the web right after the election) one step further toward the literal call for the death of the president, the “prayer” in question is psalm 109:8, which refers to smiting one’s enemy, and then some. Until Friday, you could get the “Prayer” slogan emblazoned on a t-shirt, teddy bear (!), etc., from Café Press (the site has since taken the items down). More proof that, more and more, American right-wing Christianity and radical Islam are six of one, half a dozen of the other when it comes to spreading the violence and the hate. Secular, socialist, with maybe a hint of Buddhist America, I will keep dreaming of you, however futile said dreaming may be. ***
I'm copying from my own Facebook post here:
This (video below) is funny, this is painful. This is painfuly funny. This is why, more and more, I feel that democracy, well, it might be the least of all evils, but it's way less than perfect, and becomes more and more flawed as people are increasingly (and intentionally) poorly educated except for a privileged few. (Sorry, that got pretty serious).
I'm posting it here because so many people responded. First, the video, then a couple of the responses I got, below it.
S replied: "I had to stop half way through. I'm looking into Denmark. Denmark sounds real nice. And socialist."
A. had all these gems to add: "Have you looked at her book tour schedule? Apparently, the "Real America" doesn't include New York, or Chicago, or San Francisco, or LA, or even Cleveland or Pittsburgh or Atlanta or DC. Some good quotes, though, "When you're right, you don't have to compromise. Compromise is for people who are wrong!" Also, the "Real America" is surprisingly devoid of independent booksellers. So much for supporting "Mom + Pop" small business."
