I have a post up at Glenn’s blog today. If any of you loyal readers feel in the mood to defend me in the comments section, go to it, but take a word of advice: Don’t get sucked into responding to the deluge of criticisms and arguments. Stick to a simple point that you feel comfortable defending, responding to people only insofar as you’re clarifying that one point. Otherwise, it just descends into a free-for-all, or a gang tackle (with you being the guy or gal at the bottom of the pile).
Also, as Patrick Swayze said so nicely in Road House, be nice, and when it’s time to not be nice (I’m paraphrasing a bit here), be not nice in a nice-seeming way. There’s no margin over there in being snarky or sarcastic or hostile-sounding. Earnestness and civility while making simple, strong, unapologetic arguments is, I’ve found, the only way to engage with those guys in a productive way.
And on another topic, I’m not a big fan of frat boy culture, but sometimes those fuckers are funny. To wit, this photo of three brothers "photobombing" what would otherwise be a nice picture.
