When big weather meets blog…
The update from here for those who aren’t here: there was a lot of snow (I think we got about 20 inches). Where that snow goes is a puzzle. It was pretty coming down. It got blowy during the night (and is windy today). We had three fourth grade boys last night, a very tired preschool girl, and two teens.
I made the obligatory winter weather event pancakes.
Here are my random observations from this very snowy weekend thus far—
Access to websites plus social media heightens weather-related anxiety. However, social media also inspired love and appreciation for our Mayor. He posted a photo depicting his readiness for the storm from early in life and later one after riding with the plow crew last night.
The closer you are to a town or city center during a storm, in a way, the more fun. There’s something about the deserted cityscape and the thrill of discovering what’s open that feels particularly magical.
Given that my fourteen year-old-son is currently in season-long possession of my tall winter boots, I am likely to have snowy socks inside my boots.
I should have purchased more flour.
Neighbors—aka built-in pals—are essential during weather events.
During a weather emergency when the Governor issues a ban on driving, people should not drive.
I’m appreciative to road crews and police and fire departments and hospital workers.
Snowstorms are another reason I am glad I don’t have a dog, however adorable the photos of small dogs traipsing into big snows may be.
This video comes from last year’s biggest snowstorm, but it’s so lovely I am sharing it again. It pays homage to snow, my little town and catchy tunes.
As I think about during inconveniences from our lice infestation to a storm, there’s incredible privilege in not having to worry about the impact of a snow day upon finances. We are incredibly fortunate to be able to simply be warm, make cocoa, and relax during this quiet snowy interlude.
