Really and truly I am even happier about last week’s election now than I was on Wednesday last. I just read last night (thank you, Twitter) that in Philadelphia (that’d be my hometown), there were 59 voting divisions where Mitt Romney got not one vote. Zero votes that is. Last week wasn’t about Romney’s defeat—it was about Obama’s win. Add to your happy factor; take a peek at this Tumblr of Obama with kids. Trust me, you will smile—widely.
Honestly, of the nineteen women in the senate I am both thrilled and mortified. Thirty-one to go to get to even-Steven; as one friend said to me over the weekend, she’s going to start sending money to Emily’s List again, in thanks and in hope for the future.
So I have to share this for my Tuesday Three: Sonia Sotomayor on Sesame Street discussing “career” with Abby Cadabby. It’s been zipping about the Internet, but if you didn’t stop to watch, I think you’ll be tickled. We were.
Reminded again of the turn-princess-on-head picture books this weekend at the Carle Museum—where there was a terrific display in the shop. I am going to do a whole post on this for What Do Feminist Preschoolers Read? Meantime, I’m taking this as a moment to say again how very much I adore the latest Olivia book, Olivia and the Fairy Princesses. Read it for the corporate malfeasance line alone.
Lastly, for standing expectations on their head, read this essay on Motherlode; it was written by a mother whose son began to design something entirely unexpected (to her—and will be unexpected to you, too). I truly laughed while tears crowded my eyes—the moved ones not the laughing ones—as I finished it. I was reminded, along with all else, how parenthood—and life—forces you to keep an open mind.

These two make me happy
As for me, no question this week, amongst three things that make me happy is all that electoral good news. I notice this month of Thanksgiving that one way people use the Interwebs is to share something they are grateful for each day; having been a three-good-things gal and all, I dig this. I do. Sappy as I am I can’t help but enjoy these little eddies of gratitude. Third thing that makes me happy: Nashville got full-season pickup. I am so completely hooked.
