High on the list of famous Fidos, with a stature that Lassie could only drool over, is Toto. A fetching lad (Toto was actually played by a lass, a Cairn Terrier named Terry), Toto made hound history with the film version of The Wizard of Oz. So captivating is this minuscule mutt, he/she begs the question: What would Oz look like from a dog’s-eye view?
Artist Terry Rooney offers her interpretation of Toto’s perspective in a mixed-media exhibit, Oz: From Toto’s Point of View. Initially, Rooney was captivated by Oz and moved to recreate scenes from the story. In her first works, she saw a curious theme: the characters’ feet. It could mean only one thing—she was channeling Toto.
