Nothing lights up The Arts Block like the Ladies in Jazz series, which always draws a crowd and delivers a funky fusion of music genres with passion and grace. Samirah Evans, a New Orleans-seasoned singer who has performed with the likes of James Brown and B.B. King and who now resides in Brattleboro, returns to headline this series alongside vocalist Mary Witt, who is best known as the band leader, vocalist, and bassist for the New England-based band The O-Tones. The two musicians will play popular songs written by Witt like “Drop On Me” as well as duets and solo performances that jump and jive between swing, pop, R&B, and soul. It’s the newest installment in a series that The Arts Block co-produces with Silktone Productions in an effort to introduce new women artists to audiences in Western Mass. Guitarist and singer Anand Nayak, also of The O-Tones, guest stars alongside bassist Wayne Roberts and drummer Jason Arnold.
