Stories in Strokes
The Abraham Project, developed by German artist Marlis Glaser over the past 10 years, contains more than 200 drawings and paintings of Holocaust survivors and their children in Israel. Glaser based each of these artworks on narrative interviews she did with her subjects — work which earned her an Obermayer Award last year, which is presented to non-Jewish Germans who have made outstanding voluntary contributions to preserving the memory of German Jewish communities. Stories not only of individuals but of families resonate with Glaser, whose father was a Nazi soldier. Her own son, professional sculptor Samuel Fischer-Glaser will join her on Sunday for a talk and slide presentation of their work, followed by a reception.
