Kevin O’Rourke used to make music in the Valley, not only with his primary project, the low-key Americana outfit Lo Fine, but also with locals Spouse, Lloyd Cole, and Mark Mulcahy. After all that sound and fury, he went eastward, settling in Truro, on Cape Cod. He’s been recording tunes ever since, often with the help of other Valley musicians. Some of the results of all that songwriting and recording arrived last year in the form of an album called Want Is A Great Need.
This weekend, O’Rourke returns to his former haunts to deliver a solo show at the Motague Bookmill. Afterward, he plans to accomplish an octophonic dream. He’ll play his latest album on vinyl, then follow up with the playing of the Flaming Lips album Ziareeka, also on vinyl. Ziareeka was intended to be played with all of its four stereo discs (that’s eight separate tracks) cranked up simultaneously, so O’Rourke plans to have four turntables and accompanying stereo setups ready to go.
