The Springfield Symphony Orchestra promises a performance that's not of this world in Flights of Fantasy. Narrated by George Takei (the original Star Trek's Mr. Sulu), the program features scores from that television series and other well-known space films.

The concert begins with the familiar first notes of the opening theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey (Richard Strauss' "Also Sprach Zarathustra"), and stays in space with Star Wars scores by John Williams, including the "Imperial March" and the main theme. The Orchestra also performs music from other fantasy favorites such as John Williams' "Hedwig's Theme" from Harry Potter. Johan de Meij's The Lord of the Rings Symphony is enhanced with narration from Takei, who reads excerpts from the movie. Whether your cup of tea is wizard wars or intergalactic domination, the SSO aims to whet your sword and/or beam you up.

April 4, 8 p.m., $10-57, Symphony Hall, 36 Court St., Springfield, (413) 733-2291, www.springfieldsymphony.org.
