If shoegazing angst and a flailing guitar hand aren't your folk style, lend an ear to the old-school folk of Bill Staines. Staines started playing in the early '60s in Boston, and eventually emceed Sunday sessions at Cambridge's Club 47.

Staines arrives in Amherst this week to sing his own compositions, like "All God's Critters," traditional songs and perhaps even a yodel or two.

 May 11, 7-9:30 p.m., The Nacul Center, 592 Main St., Amherst, www.filbert.com/pvfs.
