It’s a terrible addendum to a concert for a good cause: last month, Viva Quetzal member Jon Weeks lost his son, Ari D. Brown-Weeks, a paratrooper, to the war in Iraq. Viva Quetzal (pictured) will play with the world music ensemble Mawwal this week to do their part to remedy the loss of soldiers in Iraq and the state of affairs at home by promoting the impeachment of George W. Bush.
The show is part of the Hilltown Music series, which used to be a centerpiece of Shelburne Falls’ Memorial Hall calendar, but which now takes place at venues from Northampton to Brattleboro. The Northeast Impeachment Coalition will be on hand to help stir up a healthy dose of constitutional fervor.
Both bands play music of international flavor, and do it with great skill. Let’s hope the skills to put impeachment back on the table will be on hand, too.
The show takes place at Memorial Hall in Shelburne Falls this Saturday, Oct. 27.
