The Other World War II Club

In the years following the Allied victory in Europe, young artists came together seeking a creative space to begin again. The “Cobra” movement became that unique meeting point. Cobra artists were a diverse lot, but many shared an interest in spontaneity and myth, as well as folk art and children’s art. This new exhibition, organized by NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale, includes paintings, sculptures, prints, and primary documents from Cobra artists Asger Jorn, Pierre Alechinsky, and Karel Appel; and works by present-day painters Albert Oehlen, Jacqueline de Jong, Nicole Eisenman, and Herbert Gentry. Guest curated by Karen Kurczynski.
