Interesting how on the day Virginia Rep. Virgil Goode’s worst nightmare happens–Muslim Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) gets sworn in with the Koran (see earlier post "Dem busts a move?")–it’s breaking news that Bush has chosen to send as our ambassador to the United Nations another Muslim, current Iraq ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad. It almost looks like a rational move from the Boy Wonder, so I’m sure it’s but a matter of time until we find out why it’s really not so smart. (Just a guess–probably something to do with ties to oil interests.)

I’m concerned though–what will we tell the children? That it’s okay for religious diversity to happen in our country? That our "Christian nation" can be adequately represented by a dusky man from Afghanistan who believes in the prophet Mohammed? Will the fundamentalists faint en masse? Will Virgil Goode cease supporting Dubya? Should be a fun ride!
