Dirt-floored barns are perhaps not the expected setting for one of the top art fairs in the country, but then again, this is Paradise. The Paradise City Arts Festival attracts over 250 artists and master craftsmen (including Elizabeth Myers, whose work is pictured) who have created paintings, glass sculptures, photography, jewelry, furniture and even wearable art. A professionally landscaped sculpture garden offers an adventure in the unexpected that includes carved granite fountains, pointy metal sculptures and a five-foot glass spider. Begun 13 years ago by Geoffrey and Linda Post, the event has become vital to artists throughout the Pioneer Valley and beyond. Each year a silent art auction is held to raise money for the Fisher Home in Amherst; to date, nearly $150,000 has been raised for the Valley's only residential hospice service.
