If you haven’t seen the Blind Boys of Alabama, it’s time to change that. This group of singers, whose history stretches back to the 1930s at a school for the blind in Alabama, are capable of inducing a euphoric state somewhere between church revival hand-waving, and stomping, can’t-stand-it blues groove. Two founding members are joined by a cast of more recent additions, and the talents on display are the real deal, a Southern soul-gospel extravaganza. It is likely that the empirical method will someday prove that leaving a Blind Boys show feeling bad is in fact not possible.
