Follow-up coverage of yesterday’s mayoral debate in Springfield can be found in a couple of places for those tracking the issues.

Today’s Republican includes an article by Peter Goonan outlining the topics addressed during the moderated panel format. Goonan estimates that about 125 people attended, while MassLive.com senior producer Kristen Beam, who provided three-part online video footage of the debate as of late last night, estimated the crowd to be more like 150. From Goonan’s piece:

While [Mayor Charles] Ryan portrayed himself as the leader who helped steer Springfield to fiscal stability, [current city councilor Domenic] Sarno said that residents of the city feel less safe now than two years ago when Ryan was elected to a second consecutive two-year term.

Ryan asked voters to trust his experience and record, and stressed his efforts to revitalize neighborhoods and improve the climate for business and economic development.
