Away from the hustle and bustle, Diva's Nightclub sits on the outskirts of downtown Northampton, a perfect spot for this very "out" club. On its website, Diva's says it's welcoming of all lifestyles, though this nightclub particularly caters to people of a GLBT persuasion. Diva's offers almost-daily events, ranging from hip-hop dance parties to group screenings of Showtimes' The L Word.
Open Tuesday through Saturday (and sometimes Sunday for special events), Diva's kicks off every week with its goth-themed Tuesday night, featuring industrial/alternative/goth music spun by DJs Penelope and addam. Wednesday is drag night (although many other nights turn into drag nights as well), during which lads and ladies from across the land don their best drag costumes and strut their stuff across the stage, hoping to be crowned a drag king or queen. In January, Diva's is hosting its Drag Wars—drag contest winners from throughout the year will get the chance to vie for a hefty cash prize ($750), the right to compete in the Diva Olympics (the finale of all drag war finales) and, of course, massive bragging rights.
Thursdays are nostalgic with Awesome '80s night at the club. Friday things are modern with Sexyback Friday featuring hip-hop, reggaeton and Latin music by resident DJs Lori B and Otis.
Special upcoming events include a Women 4 Women Dance on Jan. 11, the Diva Olympics on Jan. 23 and an AIDS Benefit After Party on Jan. 25 featuring, of course, a drag show.
