While I was busy most of Monday, Martin Luther King day, eloping – that’s right, y’all, Anja and I ran off and got hitched! – I did listen to the radio a bit and turned on the TV too, and everywhere I looked and listened, all I saw and heard were white people (mostly men) interviewing black people (all men) about MLK and his influence. Especially in sports media, it’s always white guys in suits interviewing black guys in sports uniforms about the great man. I realize this isn’t shocking or anything, but I find it sad. King improved our country for everyone and his memory shouldn’t be ghettoized. The only white person or woman I heard talk about King was Hillary Clinton, because politicians have to, and she stuck her foot in her mouth while doing so. For those of you who missed it, she seemed to be giving LBJ as much credit as MLK for the accomplishments of the Civil Rights movement.
Back to our regularly man stuff like marriage and pornography on Friday, maybe sooner from the brilliant and prolific Mr. Oppenheimer!
