Museum guards are paid to closely watch visitors who might breathe too heavily on priceless art or carelessly handle ancient artifacts. They also get to view some of the world’s greatest art day in and day out, perhaps pondering the lines and textures of Rembrandt, the magical eye of Ansel Adams, the insanity of Van Gogh, or just a pretty vase of flowers. Work by some artist-guards is the main attraction at an exhibition called Who’s Guarding Ours? Artists participating in the exhibit include Hannah Richards (whose work is pictured), Michelle Contugno and Bob Richardson, who all were at one time or currently are guards at Smith College’s Museum of Art. An opening reception and one-year birthday party for the gallery includes a performance by guitarist and gallery co-owner Bill O’Haire.
