According to a meeting attendee, the number of people attending the BPW’s monthly landfill update meetings at Finn-Ryan Road School is growing. Two months ago with little promotion there were two members of the public, a month ago there were eight, and last night about fifteen people attended the meeting. Though I cannot comment on the content of the past three meetings as I was not able to attend, it is encouraging that the city and its residents are coming together more regularly on the issue of waste management.

Why has this happened? Besides an article that appeared on the topic in the Valley Advocate, the city has added the meeting to its online calendar, Councilor Narkewicz now includes the meeting in weekly email updates, and the Gazette has added an announcement to the weekly meetings calendar which appears in its Monday edition.

In February about sixty-five people attended a landfill odor meeting held at the same venue and that meeting as pictured below I did attend. If you’re looking to get current on the issue, videos of that meeting as provided by Mary Serreze of Northampton Media.com are available there and at the Paradise City Forum on its landfill page. At the PCF you will also find videos of other meetings and testimony on the proposed landfill expansion as well as various links to local media coverage.
