Geico Caveman, what happened???

I have to admit that as much as I’m (or I was) a big fan of the Geico Caveman‘s early work, I never watched an episode of the TV series that spun from those ads. Lately, though, Geico has been airing some new ads that, to me anyway, lack all of the charm, wit, and, yes, social commentary of the originals. And the caveman himself (now played by a different actor?) has gone from sensitive and incensed to, seemingly intentionally arrogant and stupid. Here’s one of the recent ones that make me want to remove said Cro-magnon from the Manteon:
