If only the Middle East could take a cue from these two travelling comedians: Azhar Usman (a Muslim) and Rabbi Bob Alper (a Jew) have combined their respective arsenals of yuks to battle a common enemy: boredom.
Alper, who holds a doctorate from Princeton’s Theological Seminary, is an ordained rabbi whose 22-year comedy career has supplemented his 14-year service to congregations and whose material is regularly showcased on XM and Sirius satellite radio. Usman, a Chicago native, has been touted as the “world’s most famous Muslim comedian,” and has been featured on Nightline and CBS Sunday Morning. Their current touring show is billed as clean humor, suitable for everyone over the age of 11, and was called “one of the most unusual and uplifting cross-cultural experiences you’ll have this year” by Detroit Free Press religion writer David Crumm.
