In 10 hours you can get a lot of things done: write the first draft of a short story, drive to Atlanta or fly over an ocean. It’s a chunk of time that makes up most people’s work days and the majority of time they are awake. Dedicating 10 hours to a specific event is serious business.
This is exactly what Nhamodzangu Abraham Magadza, a.k.a. DJ Nhamo, intends to do at Florence’s VFW hall this week. Following previous successful fundraisers of the same nature, Magadza’s fundraiser is intended to help people in “financially and politically troubled Zimbabwe.” Promising 10 hours of world music, from Afro-pop to Euro-beats, the event will include a Chinese buffet and hula-hooping by Megan LaBonte (of streets of Northampton fame). Raffles will take place all day, and local companies are encouraged to make donations for the chance to be involved in the raffles. For more info, email magadza@yahoo.com.
