I put together an annual show called The Happy Valley Showdown. It was an introdution of the up-and-coming garage bands loosely disguised as a Battle of the Indie Bands to get people out on a series of Sunday Nights in the dead of winter. I wanted to bridge the gap between "veterans" of the local music scene, who I used as judges, and all the newcomers.

So there were some bands that I didn't exactly love, but I threw in a selection of cover songs with the idea that even if I didn't personally care for the type of music a band did, at least for one song in each set, they'd have to play a cover from a list of some of my all-time favorite tunes. One choice was any Beach Boys song except for "Kokomo," and of course Bunnies chose "Kokomo" and delivered it in a style like Devo's version of The Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction." Everyone thought it was brilliant, even the judges, which almost won them first place in their night. I was pissed! Then after what happened had settled in and I had time to reflect, it dawned on me that this is rock 'n' roll, and rock 'n' roll doesn't have rules!
