The Valley just lost a key member of its music scene when Bruce Tull decided to move back home to Oklahoma. Bruce was a vital part of the late Scud Mountain Boys as well as Lo fine and my band Haunt. He has also produced and played on countless local records. He will be sorely missed.

The reason I bring this up is because of the way he was sent off. A large and talented group of local musicians showed up to say goodbye and sing songs around a fire at a friend's house. The songs kept going until 5 a.m., and at one point we all went into the house to listen to a song Henning Ohlenbusch wrote (and a handful of folks recorded) about Bruce's old home and studio, "The Woodmont."

The Woodmont hosted hundreds of after-hours jam sessions. We would sit around Bruce's kitchen table (which was surrounded with instruments) and pass around guitars and play on each others songs. Often well into the next day.

When the scene needs to come together, it does, and that's one of the reasons I love it here.
