Vampires of Franklin County beware: the savory smell of garlic wafts this way. The North Quabbin Garlic and Arts Festival celebrates its 10th year of enlightening the Valley about the glorious bulb of health and flavor. The family-friendly event focuses on the locavore phenomenon of consuming products that are grown or produced near one's home.
A smorgasbord of dishes awaits the garlic-loving palate, from Bueno y Sano's chicken or spinach garlic burritos to Bart's Homemade garlic ice cream. Children can encounter animals from emus to alpacas, and can also try their hands at cider pressing or garlic paper-making. Horse-drawn hay rides and a tug of garlic round out the activities for young and old. Musical performances include appearances by the Cailte Kelly Band, Mother Turtle and Bamidele Dancers and Drummers. Airborne Joel and the Skeleton Crew Theater also perform on the family-friendly stage.
Sept. 20-21, kids/free, $5/general, Forster's Farm, 60 Chestnut Hill Rd., Orange, (978) 544-9023, www.garlicandarts.org.
