Apparently, a notable community sing took place in the 1920s, bringing Northamptonites together and forcing them to spill off the lawn of Forbes Library, onto West Street. While the takeover of a thoroughfare today, regardless of how good-spirited, might be treated as a hazard, the assembling of people on sprawls of grass to watch music should always be tolerated. Attempting to revive the community-minded assembly of the community sing of the ’20s, Forbes Library and the Hosmer Gallery present a free outdoor concert on the library grounds.
Two contemporary local bands are slated to play. While The Novels’ (pictured) songs tend to the jangly, keyboard-and-drum-laden side of things and School for the Dead’s lyrics appeal to a spectrum of listeners (think They Might Be Giants), both share a pop-inspired quality.
