It's not often that a resident of Pittsfield's Irish sister city, Ballina, wins Ireland's version of American Idol—so when Liam Geddes, the 17-year-old sensation who makes Donny Osmond look like Jack Palance, came out on top in Irish Idol, he chose to cross the pond and make his first American stop in Pittsfield. Say what you will about lowest common denominator, mass appeal pop—Geddes can sing, with a throaty mid-range and clear, whine-free falsetto, and interpret a tragic lyric with all the sensitivity of Patsy Cline.

October 10, 8 p.m., $20-35, The Colonial Theatre, 111 South St., Pittsfield, (413) 997-4444, www.thecolonialtheatre.org.
