As was further confirmed by the cover of last week's Advocate ("Turners Falls' Big Screen Notion," Dec. 11, 2008), Turners Falls continues to up the pace for post-factory town renaissances in Western Massachusetts. The past decade has seen the birth and/or growth of businesses like Ristorante di Paolo, The Rendezvous, The Shea Theater, The Hallmark Museum/School of Contemporary Photography, The Peaceful Palm Wellness Studio and more. Add to that list the one-and-a-half-year-old Seth and Eva's, an "eclectic retail shop" which counts among its products (which also include locally made art, jewelry, fine furniture and brand name women's clothing) a growing selection of musical instruments.

Co-owner Seth Licata describes the store as "a mom and pop guitar shop for the working man, with personal service reminiscent of [the] old days." Primarily focused on stringed instruments, Seth and Eva's carries violins, basses, banjos, ukeleles and acoustic and electric guitars, and is an authorized Hagstrom dealership. "If it's got strings," their website boasts, "we can get it!" They also carry drum sets and cymbals, amplifiers and all manner of accessories from strings to drumsticks, picks and the like, and have a generally fluid inventory of both new and vintage gear which varies greatly from week to week.

As the holidays approach and the country seems to be in the guts of an economic slowdown, the frugal shopper will immediately realize the value of local shops like Seth and Eva's. They're keeping in the spirit by offering Holiday Specials of 10 percent off any one item with a three-can or $5 donation to the Franklin County Survial Center, until Dec 17.

Seth and Eva's is located at 115 Ave. A in Turners Falls, and you can reach them at (413) 863-0150, or through their website at www.sethandevas.8k.com."
