The concept of the artist as a participant in the community spawned the idea for Project Elements Easthampton. The endeavor takes the four elements of water, fire, earth and air as inspiration for an interactive multimedia installment about how the community of Easthampton embodies each element. The first installment explores earth (by artist Burns Maxey) and how Easthampton constructs the idea of earth through structures, nature, and people. A preview of the exhibit displays night photographs of local homes, illustrations of Easthampton, and phones that sit on grass-covered chairs and play audio narratives of residents.
Through April 24, The Williston Northampton School, 19 Payson Ave., Easthampton, (413) 529-3000, www.projectelementseasthampton.com.
