When Low Strung takes the stage at A.P.E. Window, the usual mics, amps and electric guitars of a classic rock cover band will be noticeably absent. The Yale-based band plucks, bows and strums its 12 cellos in groundbreaking arrangements of classic rock, pop and heavy metal songs.

Low Strung is not your average cello ensemble—the musicians skillfully execute rock anthems and golden oldies that most cellists have never attempted, including classics by Led Zeppelin, Metallica, The Who, The Beatles, AC/DC, Michael Jackson and David Bowie. The group also blends classical music intros into their performances, as in a rendition of Beethoven's "Symphony No. 7" that leads into The Eagles' "Hotel California."

Metalheads and classical music enthusiasts can rock out together to an imaginative take on "Enter Sandman" or a haunting performance of "Stairway to Heaven."
