As I walked downtown last Saturday afternoon to get what's left of my hair cut I happened upon Ruthy Woodring of the Pedal People. Ruthy was offering free bicycle repairs and maintenance in Pulaski Park. Ever cordial, Ruthy let me take a few pictures to share with Redoubt readers.

Also on the scene was James Lowenthal from MassBike Pioneer Valley. James emphasized the urgency in completing the Manhan Rail Trail connection to Easthampton using federal stimulus dollars. In short he said, "If not now, when?" He also plugged Bike Commute Week to take place from May 9 – May 16. For more information visit pvbikeweek.com. This year's slogan is, "Green Your Routine."

The city of Northampton is nearing the opening of its latest trail spur from the Round House parking lot to the intersection of Earle Street, Texas Road and Grove Street. Going in the other direction this connection crosses Old South Street and follows the William Nagle Sr. Walkway before crossing Pleasant Street and then Main Street over the new bicycle bridge. It then runs parallel to the active rail line heading towards both the Ryan and Norwottuck trails, which will take riders out toward Look Park or to Amherst respectively.
