I think this commercial pretty much speaks for itself (although here's another blogger & his readers' takes that are pretty interesting). I guess the only part of it that has the slightest hint of nuance is the difference between misogynist and homophobic. The ad above points to the former; it reviles men who are small, delicate, womanly (pussies, wimps) but I don't think neccessarily gay, whereas this one, below, pushes further the fag-bash direction, depicts the man in question as something beyond delicate, almost cross-dressing (for just maybe having gotten a manicure), which in Howie's/Chevy's eyes, is surely only done by homos.
And who better to spew the macho hate than Howie Long, NFL Hall of Fame defensive end badass, who was also known for his well-endowedness.
Here's another one. This time, somewhat of a flip, with Howie dissing another man's attempt at machismo.
And finally, one last spot I came across that adds a bizarro twist. Lots of commentary (okay, mostly from young men who seemed to be around 17-20, but commentary nonetheless) on this ad re what exactly the little girl is pointing at and whether said ambiguous pointing was intentional. I tend to think it was just serendipitous, a magical moment in advertising history.
Everybody ready to go buy a Chevy truck and help save GM now? Me? I think they can go truck themselves! (I almost made it, but in the end, I just couldn't resist. Sorry readers.)
