Took a day trip recently to New York City. Toward the end of the day we visited Ground Zero. It was the first time I've been there after the September 11, 2001 World Trade Center attacks. The site is pretty well cleaned up and reconstruction is well under way. You can learn more at WTCProgress.com.

As I aimed my camera through the chain link fence to snap a few pictures a union construction worker drove up in a pick-up truck. He shouted out at me, "Hey, you don't belong there!" I said, "Whatdaya mean?" His gruff exterior melted a bit when I huffed back and he said I should go to the bridge on the other side for a better view. We didn't have time for that, but his demeanor struck me. Ground Zero is a spiritual place and he was protecting it. I presume he works where almost three thousand people died tragically in what clearly is a solemn exercise. I put away my camera suddenly feeling out of place and thanked him for his direction. He said, "Yup" and drove away.

Below are a few pictures and there are more in the gallery to the right.
